I realized I had not posted anything about my last day on the road, so I’m posting some pics now. From New Mexico I ended up a bit North-East of Phoenix where I camped out at a great campground.
Friday night we decided to hit the road and check out the mountain music performers in Old Fort, a town 15 miles away.. I absolutely love the rolling green hills with farms, cattle and houses in this area. Wonderful.
I was told that I should ride “The Dragon”. This is a road on the west side of the Smokey’s considered to be the best ride in the area. So after saying goodbye to my neighbors I headed out of the campground and I had to backtrack quite a ways to get on the Foothills Parkway.
This morning I took it easy. I got a somewhat late start because I could. I have about 650 miles ahead of me and need to arrive some time in the afternoon on Sunday. This leaves me 4.5 days and that means I have plenty of time to do some sightseeing until Sunday.
So today after only 100 miles I pulled into Big Springs, which is managed by the National Park Service. On the way up I marked 2,000 miles on the trip meter.
I drove off at 8AM. This first day I’m trying to get some serious miles behind me so I turn onto I-15 towards Vegas. Typically I try to keep my freeway riding to a minimum as highways and side roads are much more enjoyable.
First off I fixed the front end of the bike by tightening the headstock bearings. Then I brought the tire pressures to 38 front and 40 rear. I also did some tinkering with the cruise control I installed, more on that another day.
