FJR1300 Clutch Upgrade

August 24th, 2009 by Ritzo (CEO)

My FJR1300 never had a very positively (=briskly) engaging clutch. It always slips for a split second until the oil between the plates is pushed out.

When I drop a clutch it just feels right when it grabs instantly and the FJR just did not do that. I’m sure that the stock FJR clutch it is fine for most, and I could happily have lived with it for many years but when doing some research I found a solution:

A new pressure plate with coil springs to replace the stock diaphragm spring plate.

FJR1300 highway pegs

August 6th, 2009 by Ritzo (CEO)

On my first long distance trip I noticed that only having the stock FJR1300 foot pegs is not real comfortable for all day riding; you have no options to shift your leg position short of standing up.

So I started looking for options. Floorboards like large cruisers and touring bikes have simply would look terrible on the FJR. But floorboards do offer what you really want: they allow you to shift your leg and foot position and give you a lot of freedom in doing so.

After I got back home I came up with a solution that works somewhat like floor boards, but looks good at the same time: dual rider foot pegs.

THE solution for long distance comfort

DUAL RIDER FOOT PEGS: GREAT SOLUTION FOR RIDER COMFORT

The idea is that you have a set of pegs forward of your shifter and brake pedal. The distance between the shifter and the forward peg is such that if you put your feet on the stock rider pegs your toes will not hit the new forward pegs. So you don’t even notice them. You can shift and use the rear brake just like normal.

FJR1300 Volt/ammeter

July 29th, 2009 by Ritzo (CEO)

My ‘05 FJR1300 has served me very well as a long(er) distance touring bike, and I’ve been adding lots of things that improve the ride or at least pretend to :-)

After installing all kinds of electrical accessories AND of course adding the ESG130 high output stator we supply for this bike I had been wondering about some kind of a feedback device that would give me information on the battery charge and the charging voltage of the bike’s system.

Meter showing under the console, next to my cupholder (which is in almost constant use!)

Testing our 06-07 YZ450 Stator at Amago Motocross Track

June 3rd, 2009 by Evan (R&D)

Hey 06-07 YZ450 riders – just a quick post about our ESL387, which is an excellent replacement lighting upgrade stator for the 06-07 Yamaha YZ450F’s.  We set one up in customer Jansen’s bike (06 YZ450F Special Edition!), and headed out to the local track to do some testing.

You can’t get any better test conditions than ripping around the track all day in 90degree weather.
After a full day of riding, we were tired, and Jansen’s YZ was running excellent and firing up on the first kick every time.

So if you’re looking to run some lights on your 06-07 Yamaha YZ450, or your stock stator took a dive and you need to get back in the game, head over the Electrosport store (click here!) and grab an ESL387!

HID Lighting on my 2004 KX250

January 21st, 2009 by Trent (Technical Sales)

Well my buddy finally convinced me to throw a light on my dirt bike to ride with him at night. At first I was a little bit skeptical because I have never rode at night before, except for riding double on quads out at Ocotillo Wells and Borrego which is not a good idea by the way. At least for me it isn’t, I always seem to run myself over, so I try and stay away from quads. Anyways I put a HID headlight (http://www.electrosport.com/products/product-detail-501.php), a ESL960 60w lighting stator (http://www.electrosport.com/products/product-detail-543.php) , LED taillight (http://www.electrosport.com/products/product-detail-1720.php) and a ESR600 (http://www.electrosport.com/products/product-detail-622.php) Regulator/Rectifier on my personal 04 Kawasaki KX250. I must admit I did cheat alittle bit because the ESL960 stator is not the stator that we have listed for the KX250. The ESL960 is for the CRF250R/450R, however I was not satisfied with running just a 35w halogen bulb because you might as well just ride with a candle. So I figured out a way to run the L960 on my bike. This sooner or later will be the new stator for the KX, but I am currently doing some testing on it to make sure it works flawlessly. So pretty much I am the test dummie for this new part. I must say with this HID light I absolutely love riding at night, it adds a whole new level of sketchiness to riding.

Even Next to Steven’s (Tech Support) RM in broad daylight you can see the HID in my KX is ridiculously brighter.

HID Lights in Service Honda Junior R

October 7th, 2008 by Eric (R&D)

I just finished up putting an ElectroSport HID2 lighting kit on a Service Honda Junior R.  This bike is pretty cool.  It is a CRF250R motor stuck into a 150 frame.  We used one of our ESL960 stators, a Dakar battery, and a ESR600 regulator/rectifier to power the light.  The headlight shell is one of our Dakar lights with the HID upgrade.

This picture is straight from the camera…

As you can see, these lights are stupid bright.  Even better, these come in an optional 2 lamp bulb.  Two HID lights in a single bulb!  This install was with a single lamp only due to the small motor’s stator.  The ballasts are really compact and fit so well that you barely notice they are there.

GS750 – Let the Fun Begin!

October 1st, 2008 by Eric (R&D)

The GS is coming apart.  All the way apart.

I was one of those kids that took everything apart.  My dad taught me how to solder at the age of 4.  I “borrowed” his tools all of the time to fix broken stuff around the house… and then proceeded to sell it back to him for half price.  It was actually a pretty good deal for all involved.  I learned that the easy part is the taking apart… the putting back together can be the challenge!

I have also learned long ago that I think a little differently than a lot of people.  I literally see things… in my head.  Wiring diagrams, heat dissipation on regulator/rectifiers, you name it.  I see this bike done already.  In three dimensions.  I can ride it already… feel the power… the pegs dragging through a corner…

Suzuki GS750 – Therapy for a Motorcycle Addict

September 30th, 2008 by Eric (R&D)

I am a motorcycle addict.  I really should get some professional help but this addiction is also my therapy.

My latest therapy session is in the form of a 1980 GS750E.  When the opportunity came along to build a Suzuki GS, I jumped.  I really like Suzuki’s bikes.  My last one was a Hayabusa… worked over of course.  Ohlins shocks, motorwork, etc.  Let’s just say… um… well it would stomp just about anything… straight line or twisty.  I had a turbo ready to put in but had to sell it because my wife got really sick.  So another Suzuki?  Yup… sounds like fun.

My love affair with street bikes goes back a long time.  I’m only 33 but, have had quite a few bikes and have a lot of miles under my belt…

Turbocharged GSXR-1100 @ 186 Miles Per Hour! (300KPH)

September 26th, 2008 by Scott (General Manager)
YouTube Preview Image

Here’s a quick video of me on the way to the office…

Not really… I’ve got the good sense to NEVER run the camera when I am hustling to the office… No incriminating evidence :-)

Check out this riding enthusiast as he routinely introduces his front tire to the sky at 300 KPH as indicated by our Acewell 3900 Series Speedometer mounted on his turbocharged GSXR 1100.

If your riding style tends to lean towards the sporting end of things and you’ve come to the realization that your stock instrument cluster just can’t cut it… I’ve got the solution to your troubles. ElectroSport is North America’s Distributor for the entire line of Acewell motorsports speedometer computers… and I know one of them is sure to match your riding style perfectly.

Here’s a link to the model seen in the video: Acewell 3900 Series Speedometer.

PS… Please don’t ride like this on open roads… That’s what track days are for.

Ride Safe (and OFTEN!)
