Carlsbad Half Marathon
January 29th, 2009 by Ritzo (CEO)In my spare time I like to run. I started about six years ago and have been trying to keep up to speed since then. I’m not much of a sprinter; more a long distance runner (very much a middle of the pack one though!)
Off to run the Carlsbad Half Marathon, which is 13.1 miles
8,000 Runners for the Half Marathon. That’s a lot of people. I don’t have pictures, but you should have seen the number of Porta-Potties that were at the start (everyone needs to go just before the race of course!)
The weather was absolutely perfect for a run like this. Only high 50s to low 60s. Great! And there was live music alongside the course at many locations (from good ‘ol rock and roll to blues, jazz, anything really!)
Later in the race, fatigue set in. I’m starting to look less happy…..
I started really suffering at mile 8… and things got worse from there…. (ha ha ha!) Having a quick sip of water at every water station (about every mile or so)……
Mile 12 was the worst. I made it to the 12 mile marker, walked a few yards, picked up running again etc…. It was rough!
The 13 mile marker couldn’t come fast enough…. only 0.1 miles to go!
Let me tell you: I was VERY HAPPY at this point……!
Next race: The La Jolla Half Marathon…. A race full of elevation changes, including a one mile 8% climb up onto Torrey Pines….
Keeping you posted!

Well done! You did a very good run and finish time! I like the last photo. I imagine the caption being, “Oh yay! I am DONE!” That’s how I felt. Well, time to get ready for those hills in La Jolla or else the pictures from that one won’t make it to your blog. Ha ha…!

Hi Ritzo,
Hoe ouder, hoe gekker? Wel knap hoor!
Hier zeggen ze nog steeds hardlopers zijn……
en Johan Cruyff zegt: als je hard loopt zie je minder…Ben ik het wel mee eens.
vriendelijke groet uit Holland
