Suzuki GS750 – Therapy for a Motorcycle Addict

September 30th, 2008 by Eric (R&D)

I am a motorcycle addict.  I really should get some professional help but this addiction is also my therapy.

My latest therapy session is in the form of a 1980 GS750E.  When the opportunity came along to build a Suzuki GS, I jumped.  I really like Suzuki’s bikes.  My last one was a Hayabusa… worked over of course.  Ohlins shocks, motorwork, etc.  Let’s just say… um… well it would stomp just about anything… straight line or twisty.  I had a turbo ready to put in but had to sell it because my wife got really sick.  So another Suzuki?  Yup… sounds like fun.

My love affair with street bikes goes back a long time.  I’m only 33 but, have had quite a few bikes and have a lot of miles under my belt…

I love vintage bikes but I also love big powerful bikes.  My bikes have run the gamut from Triumph Bonnevilles to a Aprilia Mille to a Harley and even a BMW.  My favorite riding is in the twisty roads here in Southern California.  I took a hiatus from long backroad rides when my son was born.  It would seem that he is a chip off the old block.  He was in my work area the other day and saw the GS and says… biiiiggg Mo-grrrrrr.  He is 18 months… but has already caught the bug from his dad.  It won’t be long before we are riding together!

Anyhow… I haven’t had the time to do all of the stuff that I want but, I wasn’t going to pass up building a new bike.  My wife is very understanding of my “hobbies”.  I fly (1965 Cessna 150), ride, have a 1953 Hudson Wasp project that I will get to one of these days, … well the list goes on.

This GS750… i have a lot of ideas for it.  It is going to be a cafe racer.  I like cafe racers.  I like a bike that handles.  I like the look of them.  My Triumph Thruxton is one… and I would like another.

That is as much as I am going to say at the moment.  I will post regularly with updates.  I am going to keep it classic looking but with some modern stuff hidden away.  The electrical system is going to be… well, I run R&D at ElectroSport so, you’ll see.

Oh… I have a GS1100 motor that is going to come apart and be gone through with a fine tooth comb.  Yea… this bike is gonna be fast!
